How Cursor marks a commit

Detection looks for any one of these signals. A commit needs only one to be attributed.

SignalPattern
Co-author trailerCo-Authored-By: Cursor Agent <[email protected]>
Message bodyMade-with: Cursor

Example

fix: guard the parser against an empty commit body

Made-with: Cursor

Cursor is an AI-first editor. The signal it leaves depends on how it is used: its background agent adds a co-author trailer under an address Anysphere controls, and some flows write a Made-with: Cursor line instead.

This split matters when reading any Cursor figure. Most Cursor usage is inline: a developer accepting completions inside the editor produces ordinary commits with no signature whatsoever. What is counted here is the agent, not the editor, so the number is far smaller than Cursor’s real footprint and should never be read as a user count.
