How Cody marks a commit
Detection looks for any one of these signals. A commit needs only one to be attributed.
| Signal | Pattern |
|---|---|
| Co-author trailer | Co-Authored-By: Cody <[email protected]> |
| Commit author | cody[bot] |
| Commit author | sourcegraph-cody[bot] |
| Message body | Generated by Cody |
| Message body | Sourcegraph Cody |
Example
fix: correct the symbol lookup path
Co-Authored-By: Cody <[email protected]>
Cody is Sourcegraph’s assistant, built around search over a codebase. It signs agent commits with a co-author trailer and commits through its GitHub App under a bot author name.
Cody’s centre of gravity is enterprise deployment against private repositories. Public commit history therefore shows a small and unrepresentative slice of its use, which is worth remembering before reading anything into its position relative to consumer tools.
What detection misses
- Cody is frequently deployed inside enterprises against private code, which is invisible here by definition.
- Two vendor addresses are in use, so older commits and newer ones can look different.
